Thanks for your help!

Hi, Mark,

Thanks for contributing to our new wiki. There's so much new stuff going on with the marriage equality/Prop. 8 issue right now that I keep adding more links all the time. As you can see, Eric and I are new to MediaWiki and are figuring it out as we go along. I copied the way you formatted the table of contents (putting it on the right side) for the Main Page, About, and Help pages. I unprotected the Main Page for registered users, but I kept the About and Help pages protected because I'm paranoid about this sort of problem.

I asked Eric to add you to the Bureaucrats group.

Anyway, thanks very much for your contributions and offer to help. (I'll cross-post this message to your AboutUs.org Talk page.)

Best wishes,

Thanks again

for your kind words and generosity.

Yes, I agree: the marriage equality movement is taking off in a radical, decentralized manner. It's heartening to watch and gratifying to participate in.

Do you have a preferred method/location of communication? You have about a zillion addresses and talk pages, and I don't want to annoy you by cross-posting all my messages all over the place. What's the best way to stay in touch? --mariva 16:32, 18 November 2008 (PST)

Bureaucrat

Eric made you a Bureaucrat. (Isn't that thrilling?) Since you were able to change the formatting slightly on the Main Page, I deduced that being a bureaucrat gives you the authority to edit pages that are otherwise blocked to registered users -- correct? (I went ahead and changed the protections on the About and Help pages to Block Unregistered Users.) --mariva 17:41, 18 November 2008 (PST)

RSS feed icon

Hi, Mark -- I noticed that you'd uploaded an RSS feed icon (Image:15px-RSSFeedIcon.png) and I think I misunderstood the intent at first. Did you upload the RSS feed icon so that it could be added to one of the menus in the sidebar? What were your plans? Are you able to follow through with them now that you have bureaucrat permissions? Thanks again for your assistance. --mariva 12:57, 20 November 2008 (PST)

OK, sounds good. --mariva 14:22, 20 November 2008 (PST)

automating news stories?

Mark, do you know of a way to capture relevant news stories (maybe by subscribing to alerts from various news services) and automatically post them to the News page (preferably in reverse chronological order, along with publication names and dates)? Or am I dreaming? What do you think? --mariva 19:32, 23 November 2008 (PST)

Update: Eric tells me that capturing news stories automatically (via RSS feed or whatever) would end up posting a bunch of redundant stories and possibly unrelated ones as well. The capture wouldn't yield a high-quality list of news stories. Is this your assessment as well? --mariva 19:37, 23 November 2008 (PST)
